Before I moved to the alps, I only knew 'Rowan' as a knitwear yarn and pattern company from when I worked in a knitting shop. But I came to love these trees that grow so high up the mountain. Then I learned of their mythological and more magical associations mostly for protection. I loved them even more and they became a sort of plan ally for me. In German they are called 'Vogelbeerbäume' which mean 'Bird Berry Tree'. The birds like to pick their berries throughout the winter, the birds and red berries brighten up the winter landscape.
I painted this while inside on a stormy day looking out to the rowan tree that grew across from my window. It is ink, watercolor, water soluble crayon and gouache.I am offering this in a limited edition print of 50. It is printed with acid-free inks on Hahnemuhle William Turner Watercolor Paper 300gsm Cold Press, just the kind of paper I work on.
The format is A4, or 8 1/4 x 113/4 inches or 210x297mm. The size of the artwork measures 17.2 x 24.4cm or 6 3/4 x 9 5/8 inches, so you can can play with the passparout when framing. Each one comes with a certificate of authenticity, is signed and numbered.
